READER REVIEW: Timothy's Review of Tillamook Oregon Marionberry Cheesecake

After discovering that Tillamook got into the "premium ice cream" game, I instantly wanted to try out as many flavors as I could. I had the California Peach Cobbler flavor the other day, and today while at the store, I picked up a pint of their Oregon Marionberry Cheesecake. It is described as, "Sweet marscapone frozen custard swirled with an Oregon marionberry ripple and pieces of graham cracker crust". Sounded pretty good. I took it out to my car, and dug in. Here is how it was........


I took the lid off the pint and noticed the purple and white custard base. It was very appealing! I took a bite and noticed that the marionberry was quite powerful. For those that don't know, a marionberry is essentially a type of blackberry. It is sometimes referred to as the "Cabernet of blackberries". What does that mean exactly? It means that the marionberry is a little bit more tart than some berries. It starts out tart, but then you can get a hint of sweetness in it too. It might not be for everybody, but its definitely an interesting and unique flavor. The marionberry unfortunately overpowered this pint. The marscapone base did not shine through at all. All I could taste was the marionberry. This pint was filled with little tiny balls of graham cracker crust. That cut through the tartness of the marionberries a little bit, and provided a nice little sweet crunch. There were plenty of pieces throughout the pint and it kept it interesting the whole way down.


Overall, I thought it was an okay pint. The marionberries overpowered everything though, and I'm not sure if I would seek this one out again. As usual, with my C rated flavors, I would eat this again if served to me, but I don't think I am going to purchase this particular flavor again.
