I was at the Fry's near work and noticed that they recently started carrying more variety of ice cream. One of those newer selections I noticed was Coolhaus products. They carry them at the Fry's close to my house, but I had never seen them at the Fry's near work, until today! It was a tough choice to either go with one of their ice cream sandwiches, or a pint of their delicious ice cream. My mind was made up pretty quick though. They had the Salted Caramel flavor on "closeout" and it was only $2.49 a pint! Who could pass that up? Not I, says the fly! I picked up a pint and took it out to my car to enjoy.
Coolhaus Salted Caramel aka "Cara-Mia Lehrer" is described as "Caramel Ice Cream with Maldon Sea Salt". Sounded simple enough! At first, I was not the biggest fan of salted caramel type ice creams, but over the years, I have began to appreciate it more and more. I had one of their ice cream sandwiches before with the salted caramel flavor, and I remember it being pretty darn good. I had high expectations with this pint, and as you will soon find out, it lived up to the hype!
I took off the lid and noticed the nice smooth base. It even had a nice little swirly right in the middle of the pint. The ice cream was pliable and soft enough to dig straight in with little effort. First bite in, and I knew this was a winner! The ice cream was incredibly creamy! The texture was great! It was almost like a frozen custard...same creaminess and body. It tasted like eating little caramel candies. It was the perfect sweetness. The salt aspect was present and let you know it was there, but wasn't overpowering at all. Even though there were no mix ins or texture changes throughout the pint, it still kept me interested the whole way through and I wanted more and more and more! I can't say enough about the creamy/smooth texture of this ice cream. It was fantastic! That pint was dusted off in no time!
Overall, I was very impressed. It may have been the best Coolhaus product I have tried yet. (Their Chocolate Molten Cake flavor is neck and neck with this one...depending on your mood, either one of those 2 could be my favorite at the time!). I may go back and buy the rest of them off the shelf and keep them in the freezer at work! This flavor was flat out awesome and I definitely want to get my hands on more of it!
