It's been awhile since I have purchased a pint of ice cream! I was on vacation this weekend out in San Diego and had to make a run to Target. I browsed the ice cream section and spotted a "Target Exclusive Flavor" called "A Swirled of Difference". It is described as, "Peanut Butter Ice Cream with a Crunchy Peanut Butter Swirl & a Raspberry Swirl". Sounded exactly like Peanut Butter Jam Session. I decided to grab it and try it out.
I opened the pint and noticed the white base with some red (raspberry) streaks near the top. It took me awhile to get to the hotel from Target, so the ice cream was softened just a bit. I took a bite in and noticed that the peanut butter base was not too sweet. I was expecting a full blown peanut butter overload, but happily, that was not the case. You could definitely appreciate the peanut butter base but it wasn't overpowering. I encountered some of the raspberry swirl next. It was delicious! Just like eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in ice cream form. The swirls of peanut butter were just alright. I was kind of hoping they would have been more of a swirl like what Ben and Jerry's has in their "cookie core" flavors. If it had that texture/flavor, this pint would have been a tad better. I made my way through the whole pint fairly quick.
Overall, I thought the flavor was good but not great. Somewhere sitting in a C+/B- category. There are other Ben and Jerry's peanut butter flavors out there that are much better than this. Still, not a bad choice for something new and "exclusive". As with most of my C rated flavors, I would eat it again, but I would not purchase it again.
