Louisville Cream is a budding ice cream business based nowhere other than Louisville, Kentucky. The company was started by Darryl Goodner, a Louisville man who left his job at a rubber plant to focus on his promising creation. I found him at the monthly Flea Off Market on Jefferson Street in Louisville. A storefront is in the works, and pints are to be available at Rainbow Blossom food markets soon.
The Sunergos Coffee variety is a cold-brewed coffee ice cream mixed generously with espresso grinds from the award-winning roaster Sunergos. This ice cream has a very bold coffee flavor and I'd strongly suggest it to any coffee lover. This treat will tickle you as the ice cream melts in your mouth and leaves the fresh, flavorful grinds to dance on your tongue. This could possibly be the tastiest coffee ice cream I've ever had. I give this flavor an A.
White Mocha Pistachio is another seasonal flavor from Louisville Cream. The news of this one strongly caught my attention. An ice cream that combines white chocolate, coffee and pistachios must surely not disappoint, and it did not. White Mocha Pistachio has a coffee and white chocolate base with candied pistachio mix-ins. The white mocha base is a thrilling flavor and the pistachios taste as if they'd been freshly candied in the oven. (Probably because they were freshly candied in the oven.) The flavor of the ice cream as a whole reminds me of a nut butter. Out of this whole outstanding trio of pints, the only negative hit I could mention is that I found a pistachio shell in this flavor. I crunched on it for quite a few seconds before I realized what it was. Despite the rogue nutshell, this ice cream was fantastic and receives an A grade. Just watch for shells!
Thanks Ryan for reviewing a company we'd yet to see on the blog!
