I was in the mood for some ice cream so I decided to head to my local Fry's and scope out the selection. Haagen Dazs was on sale this week so I decided to grab a pint. They were out of a few of the flavors but they had most of the good ones. I hadn't had a cookie dough flavor in awhile so I decided to purchase a pint of Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. This pint is described as "For those who relish a taste of something playful, we re-created a childhood treat. We blend chunks of buttery cookie dough and sweet fudge chips with our finest pure vanilla ice cream. Ah, such sweet memories".
I took off the lid and noticed a couple of fudge chips and a couple of pieces of cookie dough poking through the top. I took a bite and was very happy! Haagen Dazs vanilla base is always great. It's simple yet provides a great base. The fudge chips are decent sized and provided a chocolate crunch when chewed on. The main star of the show though is definitely the pieces of cookie dough. This pint is PACKED with little round balls of cookie dough. Each and ever bite of these little dough balls was heavenly. They are soft enough to chew, buttery enough to provide a smooth texture in the mouth, and sweet enough to keep you coming back for more. It's a pretty simple recipe (as most Haagen Dazs flavors are) and it works really well! I downed it in no time at all.
Overall, I was very impressed. It's an old school flavor that has stood the test of time. It's the kind of pint that you know will be good no matter what. Kind of like an old standby. Who doesn't love cookie dough? Haven't met a soul who hasn't, yet!
