Over the past month or so, I have sampled two different lemon flavored ice creams. One was fantastic, and the other one was just a bit too tart for my liking. I was excited to try out New Orleans version of a lemon based flavor and see what it all about. Lemon Doberge Cake is described as "This Twist On A New Orleans Dessert Classic Has Tangy Lemon Sauce & Real Lemon Cake In Our Citrus Lemon Ice Cream".
I took the lid off the pint and noticed the white colored base with a few specks of yellow colored cake pieces peeking through the top. I took a bite and got mostly the base first. I am happy to report that this lemon base is much more sweet than tart. You definitely get a citrusy lemon taste right off the bat, but it doesn't linger and soon turns into their sweeter ice cream base. It was delicious! I took another bite and got multiple pieces of their lemon cake. This pint is loaded with cake pieces! The lemon cake texture was good. It was a little bit harder than I had expected and possibly could have been a tad more moist, but by no means was it bad. It was actually really tasty while providing a subtle lemon flavor. I eventually encountered some of the lemon sauce/swirl. This was quite a bit more tart than the ice cream and cake pieces. There wasn't a whole lot of it throughout the pint, but when you hit a swirl of it, It was a nice change of flavor/pace and was really enjoyable.
Overall, this pint was better than I thought it would be and I really enjoyed it! I guess that I had preconceived notions on what lemon ice cream flavors should taste like, but I am slowly but surely being proven wrong by my taste buds and the unique offerings I am coming across. If all lemon ice cream offerings could taste as good as this, I'm sure more people would branch out and start trying out more lemon based flavors. This pint was awesome!
