REVIEW: Blue Bell Triple Chocolate


This review is bittersweet one to write. I've had these photos in my archives for a few months as I slowly worked at the carton of Blue Bell Triple Chocolate seen above, one of the few flavors we haven't reviewed from Blue Bell's extensive lineup. Those were the days where half gallon cauldrons of the some of the South's best freezer-bought ice cream took up shelves and shelves in grocery stores. Now, following the recent listeria outbreak in their factories, Blue Bell has vanished into thin air. All stores have completely pulled all their products while they continue to track down the source of the harmful bacteria. I'd like to think a company can come back from something like this, but winning over the public's trust again when customers could just as easily purchase ice cream from another manufacturer could take time. This is a shame, because they pumped out some pretty incredible ice cream; as proven by the shot below.


This gold-rimmed carton contained Dutch chocolate, milk chocolate and vanilla ice cream mixed with a rich chocolate sundae sauce. As you can see, the flavors are so intertwined that it's nearly impossible to try the components individually, but that's probably for the best. That way all three bases plus the sundae sauce can be experienced at the same time. Despite all the ingredients revolving around chocolate, the small differences are appreciated and makes for a far better product than their standard chocolate ice creams. I still have half the container in my freezer, so I shall enjoy the rest slowly; who knows when we'll see Blue Bell on the shelves again.
