With all this talk of "Milk and Cookies" flavors from different ice cream makers, it struck a nerve and made me crave some. I headed down to my Walmart and decided to buy a pint. I have had this flavor before, but it definitely was awhile ago. I was excited to try it out.
This ice cream is described as "Vanilla Ice Cream with a Chocolate Cookie Swirl, Chocolate Chip & Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies". I opened the pint and could see some of the pieces of cookies poking through. I dug in took a bite. The first taste I encountered was a familiar one. It tasted like a cookies and cream ice cream. I didn't get much of the vanilla flavor. The "cookie" part was the strong predominant flavor. I dug in some more and then encountered the chocolate chip cookie dough pieces. This is more of a smooth, crushed up cookie piece rather than the chunks of cookie dough in their other cookie flavors that most people might be familiar with. The pieces of cookie were similar to that in their Oatmeal Cookie Chunk flavor...softer and smoother. This pint was well layered throughout with swirls of cookie dough (chocolate chip as well as chocolate chocolate chip cookie pieces) including some rather large chunks. The cookie pieces were just sweet enough and very easy to chew/disolve without much effort. While eating the pint, the only thing I could think of was how I could make this flavor myself. Grab a bowl of cookies and cream ice cream, get some warm chocolate chip cookies as well as some soft baked chocolate chocolate chip cookies, mash them up, refreeze the ice cream and this is exactly the flavor profile you would achieve.
While not my favorite flavor ever, it was still rich, stuffed with cookies and it satisfied my ice cream sweet tooth craving. If you like cookies and cream ice cream and chocolate chip cookies, you will really like this flavor.
