Although the performance of Breyer's Blasts lineup has been hit or miss so far, I continue to commend their creativity. Tons of flavors have featured Oreo cookies as a mix-in, but none have utilized the vanilla versions. Much like they called on standard Oreo missionaries to assist with their Oreo Birthday Blast, they've combined golden Oreo cookie pieces in swirls of golden vanilla and sweet cream flavored frozen dairy dessert with this one. I've tried both of these famous cookies by themselves, and even though I don't have a preference, this edged out the traditional Oreo Blasts flavors when I was browsing the freezer. The golden vanilla and sweet cream frozen dairy desserts make a striped pattern around the large, intact chunks of golden Oreos before I scoop some into a bowl.
For a flavor containing so many cookies, it's surprising that Golden Oreo Cookies & Cream contains only 140 calories per serving; but I know that's attributed to the guaranteed letdown from the frozen dairy dessert. As no stranger to this particular type of base, these light and fluffy ice creams have given away their gum-like pliability far before I sample either of them. The sweet cream and vanilla varieties are barely distinguishable as far as taste is concerned, but they both provide an artificial burst of fast-melting sugar. I hadn't expected either of the frozen dairy desserts to hold their own, because after all, that's why Breyer's had called in the big guns.
The chunks of Golden Oreos managed to remain large enough to proudly display the decorations on their exterior. These cookies ranged from small crumbles that gave each bite a little bit of texture all the way up to quarter-sized pieces that require additional chewing after everything else had melted away. Unfortunately for us, when combined with the ice creams, the golden vanilla and sweet cream bases make the crunchy exterior of the cookies soggy; effectively ruining one of their best qualities. The creativity of this concept could have easily excelled, but the odd textures involved inside hold this flavor back a notch.
